Galapagos Penguin Swim Shorts

  • A pair of our beautifully-designed men's swim shorts, inspired by the critically endangered Galapagos penguin.

Made from 100% polyamide - a soft, durable and quick-drying fabric. To ensure the longevity of the colors, the print has been sun, salt water, and chlorine-tested. To guarantee ultimate comfort, we have used 100% fine cotton mesh to line the inside of each pair.

The design of our swim shorts features two side-front pockets and one back pocket, and every piece of hardware we use is custom-designed, branded and nickel-free.

Included is an environmentally conscious drawstring pouch, and all packaging is made from recycled and repurposed materials.

Every element of our beautiful beach shorts is designed and hand-crafted in Europe.

Please note that the model in this photo is 190cm tall (6’2”) and is wearing size L.

  • Galapagos penguins are the only penguin species freely living North of the Equator, but these charismatic birds have a more ominous claim to fame – they are the world’s rarest penguins. Found exclusively in the Galapagos Islands, their total population is less than 1,000 breeding pairs and they have been considered endangered for more than a decade. The penguins eat small schooling fish, mainly mullet, sardines, and sometimes crustaceans.

The Galapagos penguin mates for life. Most nests are seen between May and January, and are made within 50 metres (160 ft) of the water. Adults stay near the breeding area during the year with their mate. The female lays one or two eggs in places such as caves and crevices, protected from direct sunlight, which can lead to the eggs overheating. One parent will always stay with the eggs or chicks while the other may be absent for several days to feed.

With a range of threats including predation by introduced species, avian disease, habitat loss and climate change, the management and conservation of the remaining individuals of this species is essential. The Galapagos penguin faces a 30% probability of extinction in the next 100 years.

  • Our partner on this wonderful print is The Galapagos Conservation Trust ("GCT") - a remarkable organisation of passionate people, also the only UK charity, focused exclusively on the conservation and sustainability of the Galapagos Archipelago. The organisation's vision embraces three primary dimensions of science, education and culture as focal points for its work. This vision promotes the view that the challenges faced by the Galapagos Archipelago are multi-faceted and can best be addressed using a holistic approach.

GCT promotes conservation and sustainability in the Galapagos Archipelago, through partnership programmes focused on science, education and culture, both in the Islands themselves and through links with the United Kingdom. Our work focuses on science, education and culture in Galapagos, often interacting and working together. To achieve successful conservation and sustainability, GCT funds scientific research and analysis, promotes education and training, and supports good citizenship and cultural exchange.

Rebel Size Guide

Please note that when the elastic waist band of the men's beach shorts is stretched, each size gains approximately 25 cm (or 10 inches) around the waist.

Women's beach shorts are designed to be worn at the hip bone, so when choosing your size it would be best if that is the circumferance you measure.

Recommended garment care: To make sure your Rebel print colors remain bright and vivid for as long as possible, please hand wash in warm water, line dry, and refrain from ironing.
